Forecast Discussion:
Monsoon is a favorite time of year for many meteorologists but also one of the most challenging forecasting periods, given the subtle features that can make or break a forecast. So let's see what features we are dealing with today. High pressure is centered over the northeast portion of Colorado, with an area of low pressure just off the coast of Washington. On a smaller scale, there is a weak disturbance moving through the southwest corner of the state, another right along the Arizona/Mexico border near Douglas, and finally, a very weak circulation moving through the eastern portion of the state. With plenty of moisture in place and these subtle features moving through the region, expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms across the area today, with those chances continuing through the weekend into the first part of next week. Storms that form will be capable of producing heavy rain and strong gusty winds.
As for air quality, PM-10 is forecast to be in the Good AQI category through the forecast period.
Have a great weekend!
