Highway 260 and Johnson Lane | Site Overview

Location: Lakeside portion of Pinetop-Lakeside, generally bounded to the north by the Jackson Lane alignment, to the south by the east-west alignment of West White Mountain Boulevard (State Route Highway 260) and Burke Lane, to the east by the western side of the Blue Ridge Unified School District property and Billy Creek, and to the west by the Neils Hanson Lane alignment; includes a mixture of public, commercial and residential land uses along State Route Highway 260.

Contaminants of concern: Tetrachloroethene (PCE) and Trichloroethene (TCE)

Action taken: During groundwater sampling in 2015, PCE and TCE were detected in private wells on properties near the intersection. PCE was detected at concentrations ranging from 47 to 59 parts per billion (ppb) in private wells used to supply drinking water and irrigation. The Arizona Aquifer Water Quality Standard (AWQS) for PCE is 5.0 ppb. TCE was not detected above the AWQS. ADEQ is working with affected wells owners to make available safe drinking water. ADEQ has completed the Remedial Investigation (RI) activities and is drafting the RI.

Status: The Proposed Remedial Action Plan for the site is currently in development.
