Facility Information
The United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Grand Canyon National Park applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 0.75 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the South Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to the Bright Angel Wash in the Colorado – Grand Canyon River Basin in Township 31 N, Range 2 E, Section 26, in Coconino County, Arizona. The South Rim WWTP is a federally owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial sources in Grand Canyon National Park and Grand Canyon Village. Sludge generated at the facility and received from off-site is treated by aerobic digestion and drying beds to Class B pathogen reduction, then transported by truck to the South Rim Lagoons.
