UPDATE: On Aug. 15, 2023, the public comment period was extended and now ends on Sept. 25, 2023.

On July 27, 2023, the comment period begins for the Notice of Proposed Expedited Rulemaking for Primary Drinking Water Regulations — Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. The comment period has been extended to end on Sept. 25, 2023.

Public Notice Information

The purpose of this ADEQ rulemaking is to protect public health by reducing exposure to lead and copper in drinking water. Additionally, this rulemaking effort is necessary to ensure Arizona retains primary enforcement authority (primacy) for the Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) program. We propose updating the safe drinking water rules in 18 A.A.C. 4, Article 1 to conform with EPA’s revisions to the Lead and Copper rule (LCRR) and align with other recent revisions to EPA’s regulations and updates to CFR text. ADEQ also proposes a nonsubstantive amendment to improve rule clarity.

The Notice of Proposed Expedited Rulemaking (NPERM) was filed with the Secretary of State’s office on July 19, 2023 | View/Download >
