Dust Pollution Prevention

The Air Quality Division works closely with federal, state and local agencies to develop strategies to help prevent air pollution. The continued success of many of these programs is due in large part to ongoing cooperation from Arizona residents.

Leaf Blower Guidelines and Requirements

Lawn and garden equipment are one of the top five off-road sources of particulate emissions in the Valley. Leaf blower restrictions (ARS 49-457.01) are in place to help curb dust emissions in the greater Phoenix area. ADEQ publishes training materials for landscape and maintenance professionals who use leaf blowers to help prevent dust emissions and potential public health risks associated with those emissions (training certification is not required by law).See sidebar for more information.

Requirements for Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV)

On days when a High Pollution Advisory (HPA) for particulate matter 10 microns or less (PM10) has been issued, recreational off-road activities are not permitted in Maricopa County or Apache Junction.2 If you are planning to drive or ride an off-highway vehicle (OHV) in these areas, check first to see if an advisory has been issued | Check Forecast >
