Notice: Pursuant to the Clean Water Act and in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code (AAC) R18-9-A907, the Director of ADEQ proposes to issue an Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) Permit to discharge pollutants to U.S. waters to the following applicant, subject to certain effluent limitations and special conditions:

Information
City of Peoria applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 2.25 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Jomax Water Reclamation Facility to an unnamed wash, tributary to McMicken Wash, tributary to the Agua Fria River in the Middle Gila River Basin in Township 5 N, Range 1 W, Section 35, in Maricopa County, Arizona. The Jomax Water Reclamation Facility is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial sources in the City of Peoria. Treatment process consists of influent screening, grit removal, activated sludge, biological treatment of sludge with aeration, anoxic zones for denitrification, solids settling in secondary clarifiers, chemical flocculation for suspended solids removal, and tertiary filtration. Disinfection is by ultraviolet light. Sludge is dewatered and hauled off-site to the Glendale Landfill. Sampling is taken after UV disinfection and prior to mixing with the receiving waters.

All written comments received by ADEQ by the close of business 30 days after publication of this notice will be considered in the final permit decision. A public hearing request must be in writing and must include the reasons for such request. If there is a significant degree of public interest, the Director will hold a hearing in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R18-9-A908(B).
