Information

The draft permit authorizes Clean Harbors to continue existing operations as a storage facility for a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes collected from Clean Harbors’ customers in the state of Arizona, mainly the metropolitan Phoenix area. The facility includes an office building, a warehouse that provides enclosed container storage, a tank farm with 13 above-ground storage tanks (four hazardous waste storage tanks and nine nonhazardous waste storage tanks), a loading dock, a roll off storage area and four work stations. The Clean Harbors facility is a service center where wastes are temporarily stored and sent to off-site recycling centers for purification or to a permitted treatment storage or disposal facility (TSDF) for treatment or destruction. The facility is designed to store 75,000 gallons of hazardous waste in containers and 35,180 gallons of hazardous waste in the hazardous waste storage tank farm. The wastes will be stored and safely managed in approved containers and containment areas. There are no treatment or disposal units on-site, and none are proposed in the draft permit renewal. The hazardous waste permit would be effective for a maximum of 10 years.
