Notice Read the Following: Pursuant to the Clean Water Act and in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code (AAC) R18-9-A907, the Director of ADEQ proposes to issue an Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) Permit to discharge pollutants to Waters of the United States to the following applicant, subject to certain effluent limitations and special conditions:

Facility Location

Resolution Copper Mining, LLC applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for discharge of mine site stormwater from Outfall 001 and treated mine drainage water from Outfall 002 from the Resolution Copper Mining, LLC – Superior mine. The discharge for both Outfall 001 and 002 is to an unnamed wash, tributary to Queen Creek (Headwaters to Town of Superior Wastewater Treatment Plant outfall) in the Middle Gila River Basin in Township 2 S, Range 12 E, Section 4, in Pinal County, Arizona.

Public Comment Period 

Dates: Aug. 3, 2016  Sept. 7, 2016

The draft permit was published in the Superior Sun and Silver Belt on June 8 and a public hearing was held at the Superior Junior/Senior High School on July 12, 2016. Due to comments received, ADEQ is extending the public comment period and will be conducting another public hearing. The draft permit was republished in the Superior Sun on Aug. 3, 2016.
