Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

As part of the state’s commitment to helping manage financial capacity at public water systems, we are holding this workshop to hear from small water systems. The goal is to identify reasons small water systems may experience financial issues and help develop strategies to address those issues.

Background

ADEQ is in the process of revising its current capacity development strategy and is holding a series of virtual sessions over the next six months to hear from water systems. The strategy is intended to ensure public water systems have adequate technical, managerial, and financial capacity to provide healthy drinking water to their customers.

A kick off discussion was held on November 3, 2020 to discuss:

  • ADEQ's current capacity development strategy adopted in 1999, and
  • the factors that impair and/or encourage public water systems' ability to stay in compliance with State and Federal requirements

A problem solving event was held on January 7, 2021 to discuss:

  • reasons behind the technical and managerial issues faced by public water systems
  • the complexity of regulatory requirements, and
  • the division of responsibilities between water system owners and operators
