WIFA Announces Deadline Extended Three Days to Submit Applications for
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
PHOENIX (Feb. 25, 2009) -The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority
(WIFA) announced today that the deadline to submit a drinking water or
waste water project application to be considered for President Obama's
stimulus package has been extended from Tuesday, March 3 to Friday,
March 6.
The stimulus package, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act (ARRA), was enacted Feb. 17, and will provide about $26.5 million
for wastewater projects and about $55 million for drinking water
projects selected by the WIFA board in Arizona.
The ARRA will provide money to stimulate job creation by quickly
beginning infrastructure projects. The Act authorizes WIFA to provide
additional subsidization on loans. Projects that receive ARRA funds will
need to be capable of moving forward very rapidly and will have
additional reporting requirements.
WIFA provides funding for drinking water and waste water treatment and
collection systems in the form of low interest loans.
"We extended the deadline to ensure that all communities in Arizona have
an opportunity to apply for assistance to upgrade or improve their
drinking water and wastewater systems," said WIFA Director Judy
Navarette.
