[ADEQ Media] ADEQ Staff to Participate in Host of "Green" Activities in Arizona Leading up to Earth Day 2011 on April 22

PHOENIX - (April 1, 2011) - Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
staff will participate in a host of "green" activities during April
leading up to Earth Day on the 22nd including water monitoring events
for students, free electronic waste recycling events and providing
manpower for environmental fair booths throughout the state.

 

"It's always important, but especially in April, for ADEQ to be involved
in outreach for environmental stewardship and sustainability," said ADEQ
Director Henry Darwin. "Earth Day reminds us all to do what we can to
reduce our footprint on the earth."

 

ADEQ staff will be present with educational activities at these April
Earth Month events in Apache, Coconino, Gila, Graham, Maricopa, Navajo,
Pima, Pinal and Yavapai counties:

 

*         April 2, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Free electronic waste recycling
event, five Phoenix-area Whole Foods Markets

*         April 9, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Free electronic waste recycling
event, two Tucson Whole Foods Markets

*         April 9, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.: ADEQ booth at Surprise environmental
and health fair, Surprise Stadium

*         April 15, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Water monitoring event for
Snowflake fourth and fifth grade students on Silver Creek

*         April 16, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.: ADEQ booth at Tucson Earth Day
Festival at Reid Park

*         April 16, 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.: ADEQ booth at Flagstaff Earth
Day Community Celebration, Flagstaff City Hall lawn

*         April 16, 8 a.m. - noon: Free electronic waste recycling
event, 1115 N. Brown Ave., Casa Grande

*         April 19, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.: ADEQ booth at annual Earth Day
event at Arizona Army National Guard Armory in Phoenix

*         April 19, 9 a.m.: Student essay and poster contest at Gila
County Courthouse in Globe

*         April 20, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.: ADEQ booth at Pima Community
College Earth Day event in Tucson

*         April 21, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.: ADEQ booth at Earth Day
Phoenix 2011 event, Cesar Chavez  Plaza

*         April 21, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Water monitoring event for fifth
grade Gila Valley students at Discovery Park in Safford

*         April 22-23: All day illegal dumping workshop and cleanup in
community of Tsaile in Apache Count




*         April 27, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Water monitoring event for sixth
grade students at Riverfront Park in Cottonwood

*         April 27, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Recycling presentations to Round
Valley Middle School seventh-grade students in Springerville
