ADEQ Issues Permit to City of Page for Expanded Wastewater Treatment
Plant
PHOENIX (Jan. 8, 2009) - Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
Director Steve Owens announced today that ADEQ has issued a permit
amendment for the City of Page to increase the amount of treated
wastewater from its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that is reclaimed
for irrigation.
"The City of Page has a modern wastewater treatment plant capable of
producing high quality effluent and this important revision to the
permit will ensure that the treated wastewater has a safe place to go,"
Director Owens said. "It also ensures that the plant will have the
capacity to meet the requirements of this growing city."
The WWTP can treat up to 2 million gallons per day, but the City needed
the ability to reuse the same amount of treated water. Late last year,
the City informed ADEQ that it had increased its irrigation acreage from
153.14 acres to 335.78 acres, which is enough land and turf to accept
the volume of treated water from the WWTP at full build out.
The permit, known as an Aquifer Protection Permit (APP), regulates the
operation of the WWTP. The amended APP requires the City to use the best
available technology to reduce discharge of pollutants and to meet
aquifer water quality standards.
