ADEQ Director Owens Announces Plan to Open New Vehicle Emission
Inspection Station in Goodyear
PHOENIX (September 12, 2007) - Arizona Department of Environmental
Quality (ADEQ) Director Steve Owens announced today that ADEQ plans to
open a new vehicle emissions inspection (VEI) station in the rapidly
growing Southwest Valley in January 2009 when the department's new
contract with Gordon-Darby, Inc. goes into effect.
"This new station will make it easier and more convenient for people who
live and work in Goodyear and the Southwest Valley to get their cars
inspected," Director Owens said. "In addition to being conveniently
located, the station will have shorter wait times as well as
programmable signs with updated information on wait times."
Currently, the closest VEI inspection centers for Goodyear and other
Southwest Valley residents are in the 7100 block of North 110th Avenue
in Glendale and in the 5300 block of West Roosevelt Street in Phoenix.
Owens said that ADEQ included a requirement that a VEI station be built
in the Southwest Valley when the VEI contract was sent out for bids
earlier this year. "We wanted to make sure that people in the Southwest
Valley get the service they need and deserve," Owens stated.
The new three-lane inspection station, to be located in Goodyear, is
expected to handle 80,000 inspections annually when it opens in January
2009. Each inspection lane will have the capability to perform two
on-board diagnostic (OBD) inspections simultaneously. The station will
be able to quickly and efficiently inspect both conventional and
OBD-equipped vehicles.
The station will be located on a three-acre site at 16120 East Eddie
Albert Way, approximately five miles south of the Papago Freeway (I-10),
midway between the South Cotton Lane and South Estrella Parkway exits.
East Eddie Albert Way is located just north of MC85, and east of Sarival
Road.
