Health message for Tuesday March 15: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

Health message for Wednesday March 16: No health impacts are expected.

Synopsis and Discussion
Despite the presence of a moderate (4-5 deg C) surface based radiation
inversion and mostly light wind regime this a.m., highest hourly PM-10
(coarse) particle concentrations were in the 50-100ug/m3 range and
PM-2.5 (fine) particle concentrations were mostly <15ug/m3. Good air
quality is expected to continue; on Wednesday a large upper level trough
in the mid-latitude storm track will begin to develop off the CA coast
and tightening low-level gradients will result in an increase in
afternoon winds over the Phoenix metro area with breezy to gusty winds
each afternoon thru this forecast period. This, along with strong
daytime heating, will promote good dispersion and relatively low
particle pollutant levels. In addition, the combination of daytime high
cloud cover and winds will keep local ozone production and accumulation
below average. More good news is that rainfall potential will be on the
increase by early next week as a strong surface cold front and the
aforementioned trough move overhead. -Reith
