Synopsis and Discussion
Local ozone levels decreased Wednesday as plume formation was
interrupted by wind gusts over 20 mph that occurred during the
afternoon. Prevailing weather conditions - sunny skies, lighter winds,
and afternoon high temperatures above 105 deg F - will remain conducive
to ozone formation sufficient to produce readings in the moderate range
of the Air Quality Index thru the weekend, however. Hourly PM-10 (coarse
particle) concentrations were up at some monitoring sites again this
a.m. and included 148.5ug/m3 at West Forty Third, 141.9ug/m3 at Buckeye,
and 108.8ug/m3 at Durango. Particle pollution levels tend to decrease
on weekends due to less emission-causing activities, and highest
concentrations are expected to fall back into the good range of the AQI
by Saturday. No significant changes in the current synoptic weather
pattern are being depicted by forecast models thru this forecast period.
