Synopsis and Discussion
*AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 02*
Although late in the season, another brief run at high ozone levels is possible in the Valley the next few days. After rising 10 parts per billion on Tuesday over those of Monday, a similar jump in peak 8-hour average ozone levels is anticipated for today. A strong ridge aloft will then build over the area from the west and south and bring a significant warming trend to the Valley with afternoon high temperatures near 110 deg F Thursday and Friday. With monsoon moisture shunted well to the east and south, very little in the way of cloud cover is expected. In addition, low-level gradients are being advertised to be exceptionally weak both days with a lengthy period of mostly light winds likely. Since these conditions will be conducive to above average ozone production and accumulation, and Ozone Health Watch has been issued for Thursday. Highest concentrations of all other air pollutants are forecast to be the good range of the Air Quality Index thru the forecast period. -Reith
