Health message for Tuesday November 30: No health impacts are expected.

Synopsis and Discussion
The western flank of another large and deep upper level trough will be over the Phoenix metro area today and early Tuesday before a ridge begins to build overhead from the west Tuesday afternoon. Incredible warming aloft (27-32 deg F in the 5-10K' layer by Wednesday afternoon) compared to only 11 deg F at the surface and a mostly light wind regime will lead to an increasingly stagnant air mass. This, in addition to unfavorable dispersion and the trapping effects of strong overnight inversions will likely contribute to high hourly PM-10 (coarse particle) levels at times at some locations especially near the Salt River channel; however, so far this season this has not translated into a high risk for unhealthy concentrations averaged over a 24-hour period. Elevated PM-2.5 (fine particle) readings are also possible but will probably not peak until the weekend when smoke from wood-burning fireplace use usually increases. -Reith
