Synopsis and Discussion
An upward trend in local ozone levels is looking likely - especially by mid-week and beyond. An upper level trough in the mid-latitude storm track will remain over the west coast thru this forecast period and a ridge aloft currently over the southeast U.S. will build westward toward AZ by late Wednesday. This will result in a modest warming trend with local afternoon highs at or near 110 deg F by Wednesday. Gradients aloft will be relatively weak and afternoon winds in the Valley only breezy at times thru this forecast period. Low-level winds are being advertised to become increasingly capable of transporting additional ozone and its precursors from CA by Wednesday afternoon and an Ozone Health Watch will likely be issued for that day. All other air pollutant concentrations are forecast to remain in the good range of the Air Quality Index the next few days. -Reith
