Synopsis and Discussion
Similar to yesterday, moderate morning inversions caused a spike in PM-10 concentrations around 6 and 7 a.m. Friday morning. However, levels were slightly less than they were 24 hours earlier. Thus, it doesn't appear that concentrations are deteriorating much further. With increased mixing heights and less traffic this weekend, concentrations should drop into the upper "Good" range. As the current high pressure system strengthens and moves over the region, winds will decrease significantly. A slight southwesterly flow will return by Monday as a deep trough of low pressure develops off the coast of California, pushing the high to the east. As this happens, accumulating ozone concentrations may cause levels to sneak into the lower "Moderate" range. Strong winds Tuesday and Wednesday will flush any pooling ozone from the forecast area. Despite the above normal temperatures this weekend (103-105°F), air quality will be decent enough for you to enjoy outdoor activities.
Check back on Sunday for a preliminary look at next week's weather and resulting air quality. Until then, have a great weekend!
