Synopsis and Discussion
With a decreasing influence of the low pressure system that brought early morning winds and some dust yesterday, high pressure has begun making plans to move in from the west. This ridge will produce some late-season heat that could threaten some records across the state on Sunday and Monday, with highs in Phoenix possibly reaching 105°F. Dew points continue to be in the teens across the deserts under the northerly flow generated by the battling pressure systems. This air mass will remain through the weekend keeping the skies clear while allowing early morning temps to drop into the upper 60s Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will also stay relatively light across the region. We'll be keeping an eye on a potential developing system in the Pacific that could become our first cool season trough, bringing much cooler air, clouds and relatively strong winds by the middle of next week. Stay tuned for more on that.
The Valley's air quality was "Good" for just about every pollution monitor in the network with the exception of Buckeye's PM-10. Yesterday's brief winds kicked up dust in that area which resulted in a 24-hr average that broke into the low "Moderate" range. A check of concentrations this morning showed significantly lower levels, which means that it's a pretty safe bet that PM-10 will slip comfortably back into the "Good" range today. Light winds should allow Particulates to remain there the rest of the week. Ozone levels may make a return to the lower "Moderate" range by Friday as high pressure strengthens and winds shift out of the northwest. There will be no threat to any health standards the next several days. That may change by the middle of next week with the approach of that potential Pacific weather system.
Check back on tomorrow for more. Until then, have a good day!
