Health message for Wednesday, September 16: Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

Synopsis and Discussion
Other than an hourly PM-10 (coarse particle) spike of around 200ug/m3 at the West Forty Third monitoring site at 7:00 a.m. this morning, there were positively no air pollution concerns around the Valley during the past 24 hours. Westerly flow aloft imparted by an upper level low over Utah today and Wednesday will keep summer monsoon moisture pooled up well east of the metro area, so no thunderstorm activity or associated outflow boundaries are expected for at least the next few days. Ozone levels are also expected to remain low, but a shift in wind direction to easterly by Thursday afternoon may contribute to higher concentrations due to increased accumulation. Even so, no significant deterioration in local air quality is expected for at least several more days.
