Synopsis and Discussion
Although residual moisture still remains over mainly the eastern half of AZ, the summer monsoon circulation pattern has all but disappeared. A very high amplitude ridge aloft is over the interior West, and undercutting flow is forecast to deliver and maintain a weak low over Utah by tomorrow afternoon. Counterclockwise flow around this feature will mean that drier air will continue moving east over AZ. Thus, a rather benign weather situation for the valley appears to be in store at least thru mid-week. Drier air, longer nights, and lack of significant cloud cover favor overnight inversion formation, and this in turn may cause modest spikes in morning PM concentrations along the Salt River channel by Wednesday. Otherwise, breezy afternoons will keep local ozone accumulations in check with highest readings over the far eastern Valley in the low-moderate range of the Air Quality Index.
