Synopsis and Discussion
As expected, ozone concentrations have risen across the central and western part of the Phoenix forecast area. Nine Valley monitors recorded low "Moderate" readings on Thursday with the highest levels at Glendale Community College (67 AQI). Slightly higher levels are expected Friday through Sunday as the southeast to northwest flow locks pollutants in the Valley.
Increasing moisture could result in some showers and thunderstorms Sunday night through Monday. This will also improve the chances for blowing dust Sunday as distant thunderstorms send their outflow winds barreling across the somewhat drier desert floor. If we get rain this weekend, it will cause particulates levels to drop well into the "Good" range once again. If not, expect to see "Moderate" readings as early as Sunday or Monday.
Overall, weather conditions should be pretty nice this weekend with afternoon highs topping out around 100-102 degrees under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
Check back on Sunday for a look at the coming work-week. Until then, have a great weekend!
