Synopsis and Discussion

High pressure continues its late-season tour of the western states, bouncing from Arizona to Nevada to Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. As the high's position changes slightly each day, so does the flow over our forecast area as a result. We will see a southeasterly flow over much of Arizona the next few days. This is usually a favorable flow for Monsoon moisture, but the bulk of the rain is still forecast to remain over New Mexico. We'll continue to have clouds develop over the higher terrain north and east of the Valley, but chances for rain in the Phoenix forecast area will be fairly low through the weekend.

For the third consecutive and fourth in the last five days, all pollutants were in the "Good" range here in the Valley of the Sun. Two east Valley sites nearly broke into the low "Moderate" category (Fountain Hills & Queen Valley), and likely will do so Thursday afternoon. This shift to a more southeast to northwest flow should hold locally generated ozone near the central and west part of the forecast area. Thus, it's possible to see a few "Moderate" readings at sites such as North Phoenix, West Phoenix, Glendale and maybe even Dysart on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With little rain to clear the air and mostly light winds, accumulation of precursor may lead to concentrations climbing further into that category by early next week. Meanwhile, PM-10 and PM-2.5 concentrations remain comfortably in the "Good" range with little indication of changing much through the weekend.

Check back tomorrow for the latest. Until then, have a good day!
