Synopsis and Discussion
Breezy conditions Tuesday morning have triggered some elevated PM-10 readings around 9am at a couple sites along the Salt River. Though 24 hour concentrations won't reach unhealthful levels, they should easily settle in the low to mid "Moderate" range for the day.
The responsible feature for these winds is an area of low pressure that has slipped south along the eastern flank of a ridge of high pressure off the coast of California. This disturbance will quickly move to east and northeast the next 24-36 hours allowing the ridge of high pressure to slightly edge east into our region. Somewhat cooler air is associated with the disturbance, meaning we can expected to see afternoon desert temperatures around 88-90°F Tuesday and Wednesday. Though still above normal for this time of year, it is a refreshing change from the record-setting triple digits we saw this past weekend. The latest calculations of Tropical Storm Rick takes it northeast through Mexico, completely missing Arizona all together. Thus, there will be no rain this weekend in the Phoenix forecast area due to Rick.
Ozone concentrations will continue to be in the "Good" range the rest of the week. PM-10 concentrations should also return to that category as winds decrease out of the north.
Check back tomorrow for more. Until then, have a good day!
