Health message for Saturday November 28: Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
Along with a strong (6-7 deg C) surface based inversion and a rather stagnant air mass overhead, a few high hourly PM-10 (coarse particle) concentrations made appearances at the Greenwood monitoring site with 101.1ug/m3, at West Phoenix with 111.6ug/m3, and at West Forty Third with 138.6ug/m3. Fortunately, a weather change of note is finally on the way. The large ridge aloft that has been over AZ most of this week is moving east in response to the approach of a deepening upper level low and trough from the northwest in the mid-latitude storm track. This system will strengthen to the west of AZ and then move south over Baja, and eventually track slowly east over Sonora. Initially, an increase in low-level gradient winds and blowing dust potential will occur in the local forecast area by late Saturday morning before the onset of showers later in the day, with short durations of high but not unhealthy PM-10 levels in some areas. Showers will continue to be a possibility on Sunday and Monday with overall good air quality both days. -Reith
