Health message for Thursday, November 19: Unusually sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
Despite an upper level disturbance moving through the region Thursday followed by a larger trough of low pressure on Saturday, little change is expected weather or air quality-wise the next several days. Each disturbance will drop afternoon desert temperatures a couple degrees, keeping highs in the 70s. Unfortunately, the Phoenix forecast area cannot count on either system for any rain or helpful winds to completely clear the region of the accumulating pollution. Increased mixing heights will allow a bit of vertical mixing, but just enough to keep PM-10 and PM-2.5 concentrations from reaching the upper "Moderate" range. Next week's weather pattern doesn't appear to be much different. If this is the case and local fireplace activity increases heading into the Thanksgiving Holiday like it does every year, it's very possible that we could see a Health Watch or HPA next week.

Stay tuned for the latest. Have a good day! -J.Paul
