Synopsis and Discussion

High pressure continues to be locked in a battle with a strong area of low pressure just off the coast of California. This low has moved very little over the past week and is not expected to budge much over the next seven days. The high pressure ridge, currently centered over northern Mexico, will strengthen through the middle of next week. Models suggest the center may slide further north over western New Mexico early next week. This position would be a little more favorable for drawing in additional sub-tropical moisture to the region. In the mean time, we will continue to see mountain-based cloud development with little storm threat to the deserts. Afternoon desert temperatures will be around 100-105°F with mostly light winds through much of next week.

Air quality-wise, ozone concentrations did in fact increase across the forecast area under the Ozone Health Watch. North Phoenix and West Chandler both reached the upper "Moderate" range at 80 AQI. Similar concentrations are anticipated on Friday, lowering a bit on Saturday and Sunday with little change in the weather pattern. Particulates continue to be of little concern since last week's Valley-wide rain put a damper on the suspended dust. Check back on Sunday for any changes in the weather and related air quality. Until then, have a great weekend!
