Health message for Tuesday, May 12: Unusually Sensitive People should consider limiting prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

Synopsis and Discussion
A low amplitude ridge that is currently in place over the western U.S. will slowly break down and turn into more of a zonal flow pattern by the end of the forecast period. This zonal flow may allow for some transport of ozone and precursors from California over the next several days. An increase in winds on Tuesday may help keep ozone concentrations in check for the western and central parts of the Valley, while the eastern Valley and other locations downwind of Phoenix will likely see ozone concentrations in the moderate range of the Air Quality Index (AQI). Particulate levels will likely remain in the good category of the AQI through the first half of the week, though coarse particulates may approach the moderate level by mid-week. For the time being, no Health Watches or HPA’s are being issued. Check back tomorrow for the latest updates. – Paris
