Synopsis and Discussion
*THE OZONE HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2009,
HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH THURSDAY, MAY 7, 2009*
Afternoon desert temperatures will remain well above normal for this time of year through next week. The warmest temps are expected on Thursday and Friday with the high reaching 105°F in Phoenix (2-3 degrees warmer in the hottest locations). Plenty of sunshine, relatively light winds and ample ozone precursors will lead to Ozone concentrations nearing and exceeding the federal health standard on Wednesday and Thursday. Thus, we are EXTENDING the Ozone HPA through Thursday. Locations in the far-east part of the Valley such as Fountain Hills, Rio Verde, Tonto National Monument, and Apache Junction will like see the high values. If you're planning outdoor activities, the early morning will be the best time of day. Highest levels of Ozone will occur between 2 and 10 pm.
With the lack of rain in the last few weeks and none expected in the near future, Particulate concentrations have been able to creep into the low "Moderate" range, as well. They should linger there for at least the next couple of days until we get another system to brush by the region, creating a little more movement of the air. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
