Synopsis and Discussion
A weak trough of low pressure is currently moving across Nevada and southern Utah Friday. This has helped to clear some of the clouds that brought sprinkles to the Valley on Thursday. It is also drawing drier air into the region from the southwest while shoving the ridge of high pressure and its moisture east. This low will quickly race towards the east coast by Saturday afternoon, allowing high pressure to return to its position directly over Arizona. The return of the high will also enable upper-level moisture to stream northwest into Arizona once again. Afternoon desert temperatures are expected to be around 102-108°F through next week with overnight inner-city temps in the mid 80s. Dew points (the measure of the amount of moisture at the surface) will climb into the mid to upper 50s by Sunday.

A return to a southeasterly flow will increase ozone concentrations across the Phoenix forecast area by Sunday under mostly sunny skies. Increased moisture also means increased thunderstorm activity in the high county. Outflow winds are capable of generating wind-blown dust that travels great distances, often reaching the Valley. Thus, we are keeping the PM-10 forecast in the "Moderate" range through the weekend. Check back on Sunday for any changes to the weather that may affect you air quality. Until then, have a great weekend!
