Synopsis and Discussion
Another week is in the books with all pollutants in the "Good" range. Little change air quality-wise is expected through this Father's Day weekend as a disturbance brings a chance for afternoon showers on Friday and Saturday. Most afternoon storms, however, will remain over the mountainous regions of south-central and southeastern Arizona. Outflow winds may generate some blowing dust that could move north into the Phoenix forecast area. If this occurs, PM-10 concentrations would climb well into the "Moderate" range. Any subsequent rain would help was that dust out of the air, resulting in low Particulate concentrations once again.
Ozone continues to be relatively low for this time of year. The typical monsoon wind-shift that traps ozone and precursors in the Valley has yet to occur at all levels. We are still waiting on the Four Corners high pressure system to mature and settle into position. This should begin to take place next week, with increasing moisture anticipated by Monday and Tuesday. In the meantime, ozone will hold in the upper part of the "Good" range. Check back on Sunday for another look at developing monsoon high and its potential impact on our weather and air quality. Until then, have a great weekend!
