Synopsis and Discussion
Some clouds streaming north across Arizona have kept overnight and early morning temperatures up. The low temperature in Phoenix only dropped to 91. The clouds are associated with Tropical Storm Dolores which is about 650 miles southwest of Baja, Mexico. It will continue to move away from land and weaken over the next couple of days, so no additional impacts to Arizona's weather is expected.

High pressure continues to strengthen over the region, prompting the National Weather Service to extend the Excessive Heat Advisory through Friday and possibly the rest of the weekend. Afternoon highs are expected to reach 114°F on Saturday in the Valley. Because weather systems continue to frequently move across Alaska and Canada, our high pressure system is having trouble setting up near the Four Corners area. Thus, we are just not seeing a strong stream of moisture from Mexico. In fact winds are expected to slightly turn out of the northwest Thursday and Friday. This will most cause further drying across the forecast area. The threat of thunderstorm-related dust in minimal if non-existent through Saturday, thus PM-10 concentrations will continue to hold in the upper "Good" range. Ozone may increase a bit on Thursday and Friday with highest concentrations targeting the southeast part of the Valley. This means that places such as Queen Valley and Apache Junction may see the highest levels on Thursday and Friday. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Until then, have a good day!
