Synopsis and Discussion
Storms made their way towards the Valley Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, but collapsed near Queen Creek and Apache Junction. Some rain buckets collected about a quarter of an inch there, but the rest of the Valley was left with just a few un-measurable sprinkles Thursday morning. There is plenty of moisture out there with dew points in the low to mid 60s. A break in the clouds will continue through the early afternoon. This could provide just enough energy to fire off some good thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening. We'll be looking directly to the south this time as the flow across the state is now from south to north. If you're not a fan of the moisture, drier air is expected to move in beginning Saturday through much of next week.

These clouds have once again shut down ozone production across the forecast area. About half of the local ozone monitors in the network did reach the "Moderate" category on Wednesday with limited sunshine. Fewer sites are expected to do the same on Thursday as the cloud cover is much thicker. In fact, with the dry southwesterly flow expected to commence over the weekend, we should see ozone concentrations drop off nicely into the "Good" range. There may be a few "Moderate" Particulate readings Thursday and Friday due to potential thunderstorm generated blowing dust. Otherwise, PM-10 and PM-2.5 levels will generally be in the "Good" range the next few days. Check back tomorrow for a look at your 4th of July weather and related air quality. Until then, have a good day!
