Synopsis and Discussion
Though maximum mixing heights will be around 4500 feet today, the
inversion is not likely to break until around 2 or 3 pm. Luckily
surface winds could increase a bit later this afternoon for some better
mixing. We're already experiencing slightly better visibility today
than 24 hours ago (http://phoenixvis.net/). The forecast is for high
pressure to strengthen and move over Arizona through the weekend and
into early next week. Thus, we will have near-perfect weather with
afternoon desert temperatures in the low to mid 70s under mostly sunny
skies and relatively light winds. The downside is that that
particulates will continue to accumulate during this period with no rain
in sight to clear it out and paste it to the ground. The next best
thing will be a potential wind event a week from now. In the mean time,
all pollutants remain in the "Good" range, but expect to see PM-2.5
reach the lower "Moderate" range by Friday, if not today. Check back
tomorrow for a glance at your weekend's weather and air quality,
especially for the Super Bowl parties and local morning pickup football
games at parks across the Valley leading up to the BIG GAME. Until
then, have a good day! -J.Paul
