Synopsis and Discussion
It's BACK! "Moderate" levels of air quality have returned as we
remain firmly under the control of high pressure centered just to the
south of Arizona. This ridge continues to deflect the storm track to
the north, keeping the deserts dry. As a result, the surface moisture
across the deserts has dropped considerably and the soil is becoming
less stable. With little wind or additional rain, particulates are
continuing to accumulate in the lower atmosphere. Thus, both PM-10 and
PM-2.5 have comfortably climbed back into the "Moderate" category at the
surface.
Little change is expected the next 7 to 10 days, with afternoon
desert temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Winds will also
continue to be relatively light. This means that PM-10 and PM-2.5
likely won't return to the "Good" range any time soon. Check back
tomorrow to see if the latest model runs show any changes. Until then,
have a good day! -J.Paul
