Synopsis and Discussion
Air quality was really Good for a second straight day, with only two ozone sites (Pinnacle Peak and West Phoenix) barely reaching the low "Moderate" range. The rain from Friday's storms has done a great job in clearing the Particulates out of the air. Maximum PM-10 concentrations didn't even reach 20 on the Air Quality Index! Unfortunately, that may be the last we see of the Monsoon rain this season here in the Phoenix forecast area.
The weather pattern has already begun to slightly shift again as a large trough of low pressure looms off the coast of California. It will usher in some much drier air from the west by tomorrow afternoon, pushing the moisture flow east over New Mexico. Longer range models are not very optimistic in terms of getting that flow back over Arizona. We now turn our attention south to the Mexico coastline for any tropical system that may send moisture our way. At the moment, there is not much cause for excitement.
So, under mostly sunny skies, relatively drier air and nearly calm winds, ozone concentrations will likely climb back into the low-to-mid "Moderate" range at several sites this week. Particulates will take a few days at least to reach that category. Overall, it should be a pretty nice week for outdoor activities if you enjoy triple digit heat (forecast highs around 104-108°F through Friday).
Check back on tomorrow for the latest. Until then, have a good day!
