Health message for Tuesday, April 14: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion outdoors.

Synopsis and Discussion
Wind-weary Phoenix metro residents will have to endure the approach and
passage of one more - and thankfully the last in the series - of strong
upper level trough and surface cold fronts. This system will bring
another lengthy episode of strong and gusty winds by late Tuesday and
continuing thru at least midday Wednesday. Even though moderate to
heavy rainfall from the preceding system will lessen the potential for
unhealthy levels of PM-10, the potential for periods of
blowing/transported/suspended dust will remain high from Tuesday
afternoon thru Wednesday afternoon; a PM-10 Health Watch may be needed
for Wednesday due to overnight high PM-10 (coarse particle)
concentration carry-over followed by potentially even stronger winds.
One would think that the aforementioned recent rainfall would eliminate
all threat of high PM-10 levels, but a similar event of a few years ago
proved otherwise. Over the period of March 22-24 2007 the Valley
received 1+ inch rainfalls; the highest PM-10 AQI level on the 24th was
only fourteen. On the 27th a strong wind event with gusts of 45 mph
resulted in areas of dense blowing dust with visibilities as low as four
miles; the highest PM-10 AQI level that day was 137. -Reith
