Health message for Thursday, April 9: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion outdoors.

Synopsis and Discussion
Looking at the latest cameras at www.phoenixvis.net, visibility
across the Valley is pretty good at the moment. The forecast is for
winds to pick up later this afternoon out of the southwest to around
15-20 mph with a few higher gusts at times. We don't anticipate 40-50
mph gusts that we saw last Friday. Thus, PM-10 concentrations should
remain below the health standard. A PM-10 Health Watch will remain in
effect through Wednesday, so people with respiratory issues should be
cautious about outdoor activities later this afternoon and evening.
There will be a bit of a break on Thursday with another stronger wave
set for Friday. Winds will be closer to 25 mph sustained out of the
southwest Friday afternoon. The bright side of this event will be the
moisture that is carried in from the Pacific. Though they have waned in
the amount of rain, models still suggest about a half an inch of rain is
possible late Friday night through Saturday morning here in the Phoenix
forecast area. As mentioned in previous discussions, any precipitation
would be greatly beneficial in clearing out the air and keeping
particulate levels down for an extended period of time. This second
wave will kick east of Arizona by Saturday night, making for a
relatively nice Easter Sunday weather-wise.
Check back tomorrow for a closer glimpse at the East weekend's
weather and air quality. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
