Synopsis and Discussion
A PM-10 HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR FRIDAY APRIL 03
Another strong but dry upper level trough and surface cold frontal
passage will occur over the local forecast area by late Friday. This
system will have a similar over-land trajectory of those that occurred
on March 22 and Mar 26; both of those episodes produced strong winds and
dense locally generated blowing as well as transported dust and Friday's
appears poised to do the same. Strongest winds aloft - 40-50 mph in the
5K-10K' layer - are forecast to occur over the Valley between 5:00 p.m.
and 11:00 p.m. This means that blowing dust may continue to be
generated well into the nighttime hours with elevated coarse particle
(PM-10) levels lingering thru a.m. Saturday. Persons with heart or lung
disease should reduce or suspend outdoor activities during the afternoon
and evening hours. In the meantime, highest ozone levels are expected
to remain in the mid-moderate range of the Air Quality Index and be
located mainly over the east Valley thru Friday. -Reith
