Synopsis and Discussion
Valley air quality was good overall on Tuesday, but it appears that such will not be the case the next few days. With another upper level trough and surface cold frontal passage on tap for today, local wind gusts near 30 mph may manage to generate some areas of blowing dust. In addition, many Phoenix metro ozone monitors are already running from 5-15 parts per billion higher than the same time Tuesday - an apparent influx of additional ozone and its precursors from the west is underway that may ultimately contribute to elevated ozone levels - especially at east Valley locations. Winds on Thursday will remain conducive to a continuation of such transport, followed on Friday by another potentially high wind and widespread blowing dust event. A PM-10 Health Watch will definitely be issued for Friday with a PM-10 High Pollution Advisory a strong possibility.
