Synopsis and Discussion
Stiff easterly winds continue Monday morning as high pressure remains
planted near the Four Corners region. This high will stay in place
through Thursday but will begin to break down on Friday as a trough of
low pressure finally shoves on shore. Afternoon desert temperatures
will remain around the 100 degree mark this week, dropping slightly over
the weekend. Despite the optimal position of the high pressure system,
the moisture boundary has shifted too far south and thus thunderstorm
activity will be virtually non-existent across Arizona. Visibility has
dropped a bit in the Valley of the Sun (see cameras views at:
phoenixvis.net) due to the easterly winds. It's an indicator that the
ground is drying out and loose soils are becoming more readily
suspended.
On Sunday, all pollutants dropped into the "Good" range in the
Phoenix forecast area. Tuesday is the last official day for the Ozone
season here in the Valley, and it will come to close without a fight.
We'll have some numbers for you tomorrow to compare this first season
with the new standard to previous seasons. Particulates should increase
the next several days as the easterly winds continue to evaporate any
remaining moisture at the surface (desert dew points are now in the
30s). For now, concentrations will reach no higher than the low
"Moderate" range. Until tomorrow, have a good day! -J.Paul
