Health message for Thursday, September 25: No health impacts are expected.

Health message for Friday, September 26: Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
Interesting to note that PM-10 (coarse particle) levels at some metro sites rose into the low to mid-moderate range of the Air Quality Index on Wednesday. At Durango and West Forty Third moderate morning inversions and day-long relatively light winds were contributing factors while at Higley easterly wind gusts over 25 mph likely caused some fugitive dust emissions – as they did at the Pinal County monitors. A large and amplifying upper level ridge will be the main weather feature over the western U.S. thru the weekend. East to southeasterly winds aloft on the southern flank of the ridge axis may ultimately transport some monsoon moisture back toward the Phoenix metro area during the weekend, but at this time no local showers or thunderstorms are expected. Weak gradients will mean relatively light winds the upcoming forecast period; this, combined with morning inversions, will contribute to higher PM-10 concentrations – especially on Friday morning. -Reith
