Synopsis and Discussion
A week trough of low pressure will brush northern Arizona on Sunday,
increasing desert winds slightly to 15 mph at time during the afternoon
hours. Otherwise, it will be a gorgeous weekend weather-wise with
afternoon temperatures right around the triple digit mark. With the sun
getting lower in the sky, high pressure is just not strong enough to
consistently produce the extreme summer time heat. With that said,
Monday is the first day of Autumn, and it won't be long before the 100
degree days are gone.
As expected, ozone finally reached the "Moderate" range at several
locations across the Valley. South Phoenix was the winner at 67 parts
per billion (74 AQI). With increasing winds out of the west, Ozone
levels will not be as high this weekend. Again, the winds won't be too
strong, so we're not expecting wide-spread blowing dust or anything like
that. However, Particulates will continue to increase into the
"Moderate" range across the Valley. Next week will be the last full
week of this year's Ozone season in Phoenix. On Wednesday, October 1st,
the focus will shift towards Particulates and the passage of cold fronts
capable of producing region dust events. In the meantime, enjoy the
weekend and check back on Sunday for the latest. -J.Paul
