Synopsis and Discussion
The difference in pressure between a strong ridge building over the
Great Plains and a low over Baja has resulted in gusty easterly surface
winds over much of southern Arizona today; similar winds are expected
until about late morning on Tuesday. Since winds are rather gusty,
local ozone levels should be relatively low thru Tuesday despite the
easterly component. An evolving southeast to southerly low-level wind
flow is predicted to transport a modest amount of monsoon moisture
northward over the local forecast area and points west by Tuesday. This
will result in a slight chance for Valley shower and thunderstorms thru
Wednesday and an increased risk of blowing dust via gusty outflow
boundary winds. Since no local significant rains have fallen since
August 28, any outflow winds that exceed 30 mph or so will be capable of
producing areas of dense blowing dust from areas of disturbed soil.
