Health message for Thursday, September 11: Unusually sensitive people
should consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
Due to steadily increasing moisture - in part from now Tropical
Depression Lowell - and extra instability - due to the proximity of an
upper level low and trough in the mid-latitude storm track - showers and
thunderstorms are likely today over the local forecast area. Since the
overall synoptic weather pattern is not expected to change much, a
similar situation is possible on Thursday. Cloud cover, strong outflow
winds, cooler afternoon temperatures, and the prospect of rainfall will
keep ozone levels in or near the good range of the Air Quality Index
today and Thursday. However, until widespread significant precipitation
occurs, the potential will exist for there to be areas of dense blowing
dust and brief periods of high PM-10 (coarse particle) levels generated
by thunderstorm downdrafts. -Reith
