Synopsis and Discussion
A trio of meteorological features will be interacting within the next
few days to produce periods of unsettled to potentially very wet weather
conditions over the local forecast area. These are: lingering summer
monsoon moisture, a quasi-stationary but weak upper level trough in the
mid-latitude storm track to the west of Arizona, and by mid-week the
potential arrival of moisture shed from Tropical Storm Lowell -
currently located southwest of the tip of Baja. In the short term, the
trend toward more cloud cover, cooler afternoon temperatures, and
prevailing westerly winds will help keep local ozone production below
its potential. Due to fairly recent heavy rainfall, no particle
pollutant problems are anticipated either; however, thunderstorm outflow
boundaries may be capable of generating brief periods of dense blowing
dust at times. -Reith
