Synopsis and Discussion
*AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2008*
The dry, westerly flow will continue to bring lots of sunshine, light
winds and very warm temperatures to the desert southwest. With no rain
or thunderstorms in the extended forecast, we will continue to see the
surface dry out.
Dry air is not the only thing this westerly flow is bringing into our
region. The valleys of southern California are beginning to accumulate
a lot of Ozone and precursors. That westerly flow is now steering the
pollution towards Arizona. The import of southern California pollution
combined with our own home-grown ozone could send local levels soaring
towards the health standard by Wednesday here in Phoenix forecast area.
As a result, we are issuing an Ozone Health Watch for Thursday with the
possibility of an extension or even a full-blown High Pollution Advisory
on Friday. Particulates have shown no sign of life at this time, so we
expect them to remain in the "Good" range heading into the weekend.
Check back tomorrow to see how high ozone has risen here in the Phoenix
forecast area and whether any further heath statements will be
necessary. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
