Synopsis and Discussion
Is the Monsoon over? Officially, the season's last day is September
30th. The weather pattern, however, has shifted to a much drier
westerly flow. By Thursday and Friday, dew points will be in the 40s
here in the Phoenix forecast area, not nearly the amount of moisture
needed to support desert thunderstorm activity. This means that we can
expect mostly sunny skies, relatively light winds and somewhat warmer
temperatures, reaching 107 by the end of the week. It is possible to
see another Tropical system or two spin off the coast of Mexico and move
north, increasing our chances for rain between now and the end of the
month. Otherwise, it won't be long until we can turn off the A/C and
open our windows at night.
It was another great day air quality-wise on Labor Day Monday. All
pollutants were once again in the "Good" range. That will change,
though, as ozone begins to increase the next several days. We may see
some "Moderate" readings in the east Valley as early as today. This
should continue through the end of the week. Particulates will also
climb slightly as the ground begins to dry out, but they will hold in
the "Good" category for at least the next two to three days. Check back
tomorrow for any changes. Have a good day! -J.Paul
