Synopsis and Discussion
It's going to be a warm Halloween night this evening. Today's high is expected to be around 91°F. The normal for this time of year is only 81°F. Temperatures probably won't reach normal until about 9PM this evening. For the record, the last time we've seen a high of 90 or more on Halloween here in Phoenix was in 1988 when it reached 96°F, and that was a record. The coldest high since then was in 2000 when it only reached 64°F.
Early morning clouds that skirted the forecast area today were just the messengers that the trough of low pressure is still looming to the west of the region. High pressure will break down on Sunday, sinking south and west, allowing the trough to begin to push through northern Arizona Sunday night. Winds will not be much an issue across the deserts, and there's only an outside chance of showers in the high county of northern Arizona. Otherwise, temperatures will drop to near normal by the beginning of next week. High pressure won't rebound until Thursday or Friday.
Particulates continue to be in the mid "Moderate" range at couple local sites (Durango & West 43rd) with the other sites in the lower part of that category. Nothing weather-wise on Saturday or Sunday indicates that conditions will worsen. Ventilation actually improves considerably by Monday and Tuesday before decreasing once again as high pressure builds back in. So for now, we're going to keep the Particulate forecast right where they been much of this week. Check back on Sunday for a look at your Election Week forecast. Until then, have a great weekend! -J.Paul
